with a newsgroup of virtual group open, you can filter the contents with the quick filter bar. just type in what you want to find. so, for your example, you'd enter ".chm" without the quotes.

what newsgroup type are you using? message-id direct, compact binary?

perhaps you are running out of physical RAM which can cause crashes or hard drive crashes.

Also, run memtest86 to be on the safe-side. you could have a memory issue.

if you are experiencing system lockups/reboots frequently, try scanning your memory for failure. www.memtest86.com has a bootable iso image. One thing to note, what I thought was bad memory was actually a bad DIMM socket. If you have memory failure, try switching the memory chip(s) to a new DIMM Slo...

what task(s) are you performing when it shuts down? retrieving headers? If so, I agree with Alex, check to make sure any binary groups are of type "compact binary".

If have been using UE HEAVILY since assisting Alex with beta testing it and have not had one lockup. Additionally, I have had well over 20 million headers loaded at once in UE. Try doing that in newspro!

A definite strong endorsement from this usenet poweruser! :-P

i've had a similar problem where I get "connecting" as teh status for downloads. If I close UE for 5 mins and reopen, it works fine.

I'm not sure what the cause is but while this issue is occuring, the UE Index server is still operating (and downloading headers) just fine.

What generates these CSVs? is it PicChecker? Where does all the info come from inside it? I understand that the crc, filesize and filename come from the actual file, but what is the directory info used for by someone that would be downloading it? how would a CSV file help if the poster rared or zipp...

it should now be online. There was an extended power outage of at least 2 hours of which my battery backup cannot handle such an extended downtime. I was unfortunately out of town until about 10 minutes ago when this occurred.

There was an all-night power outage due to a severe storm where the server is currently hosted. It is now back up.
