I believe some news hosts had issues with how downloads were requested when using the compact binary format. Who is your news provider?

You should not need two separate databases, however. If you want to use a certain provider for one set of newgroups and another server for another set of servers, you can detach the news server from the newsgroups in question

I've done that too. if you click on the "x" for the task manager or workspace, it needs to be reopened via the menu.

first, run chkdsk /f on your d: drive to be on the safe side. (it can't hurt) Second, goto Help -> Diagnostics -> Integrity to ensure the database was not corrupted. Do you know which group is causing the crash? If you can see which group crashes, reset only that group's headers and try again.

If, for some reason, it's still doing it, use your hosts. file (under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc) to add a name lookup for the news-50.xxx that actually points to the news.xxx server's ip address.

i get the same error from time to time. I think the server where the board resides gets overtaxed so generates the error. The replys/posts go through though.

once you reconfigure the newsgroup subscriptions, do you save and restart UE? It should not lose the list of groups subscribed.

I have also had unplanned reboots (power outage for instance) and have never experienced the issue you are describing.

Do you have "headers per server" set? Check retention levels as well. My bet is Headers per server was set to 30000

Since i am a "power user", or rather I like to have every group that I monitor loaded at once 8) , UE is far more stable than Newspro ever was. And, in the event of a crash, power outage, or other catastrophe, the worst case scenario is you will lose only the changes to the group(s) that h...

Total header count for a folder?

Does a method (other than manually counting) exist to find out how many headers a Folder, and all newsgroups within that folder, contains? I know once you open the folder you can select all topics and get a topic count. I was just wondering if there was a method of getting the header total count. ED...

If it works for one of newsfeeds servers but not another, then it sounds like the one server is having an issue. I use a newsfeeds reseller and they were having problems with downloading article bodies last week. Perhaps a similar problem has plagued the multimedia server you're using.

This was originally written for Newspro. Many of the menu layouts have remained the same, however, so should be a good starting reference.

I'm using compact binaries with www.usenetserver.com and a newsfeeds.com reseller. I can max my connection out at 1200KB/sec download when I download many articles.

It may be something with your provider as Alex suggests.
