Re: Unstable download speed

With regard to the download speed, my guess is that the website ripping program opens a large number of simultaneous connections, and while it may not use much bandwidth overall it's still hogging network resources by employing a lot of inbound and outbound connections and connection attempts. Remin...

Re: problem solved

I am running DSL 16.000 (with a real 1 MB/sec download from my Newsprovider) and usaully 10 connections. Mayby this will help prevent another problem. You can typically max your bandwidth with one or two connections, and efficiently maintain maximum bandwidth at all times by using just three connec...

Graphical download bars?

The numbers in UE are very nice and accurate, but I also much liked the graph bars in NP to display download progress for headers and such. Is this possible in UE?

Is there any way to accomplish this? I am starting to use UE tonight for some binary groups I always frequent and am curious of this myself.

Also, can I have it auto-download based on a filter as well?

Download Immediately hotkey?

I don't see any keyboard shortcut for Download Immediately listed, but I think it would be very useful for reading text posts while having files downloading. Any way to to accomplish this without using the context menu each time?

I remember this was the case sometimes in Windows ME, but I have never seen it happen with Windows XP. Essentially the OS assigns resources, and when NewsPro goes in to the background Windows ME would lower the priority and not properly allow the program to download at full speed. I was not aware of...

Try using Alt-SpaceBar to split the view window. This will let you view the message in a split pane view, and you can just scroll down your list of headers to bring up the picture in the other pane.

Yes, XPAT searches can take a very long time, and many times will not work altogether. I will say it is a fault of the server, but to give the server some credit it's more a fault of the XPAT command itself. It basically issues a search on the server side, and then has the server return the results ...

Check your newsgroup list for "proxy", there is a group which sometimes lists open/free proxy servers. They don't all work and many are very slow; there is also the likelihood that they will cease to work at some random point in time. You also should note that if you're using an ISP server...

This has been the case all along and is the case with most large newsgroup providers. I imagine that labeling a server as "Anonymous" and boasting anonymous posting was merely a marketing tactic to attract people to the service. The only thing more "anonymous" about that server i...

It could be that UseNetServer still has the same problem that users reported a long time ago where they don't keep an index of MessageIDs, so when you do an XPAT you get all of these results but then when you try to retrieve the MessageID for the articles you want the server can't find them at all. ...

Try launching Outlook Express and accessing the server with the same login info. I don't think NewsPro could cause such an error in of itself, so it could be the login info that is on the server is wrong.

I think it refers to ascending and descending. When it points down and is sorted by subject, for example, your headers are descending, with special characters at the top and Z at the bottom (would that be correct?).

Nearly any Usenet service lets you "post anonymously". The fact is, however, that you can only get so anonymous when your person information is tied to an account of some sort. Posting through Usenetserver will leave you with the same legal liability as posting through Easynews or Newsfeed...
