Header and memory setup

First: Laptop with Intel T8100, 3 GB Ram Now, does anyone have a working memory or header setup that will allow natural retention of large NG's (I want all the MP3 and DVD movie groups) and will allow more than 2 streams/groups to be fetching headers at the same time without constant and long pauses...

Request on filters

Would it be possible to make the "Clear" button on the quick filter toolbar also clear the initial filter for that group/folder/session? I have an initial filter to only view the new messages (I mark all old after perusing each group/folder), but if I find I missed something I would want t...

Database autosave all

I think there's an issue with the new feature to autosave all in the general properties. I set this to 120 minutes, but it seems it is executing the command every 120 seconds. Anybody else experiencing this?

UE is very fairly priced, and I'd suspect that those who haven't switched either don't know about UE or are pleased with what they have. I forget when I purchased NP, but it was years ago and Alex has continued to update it with no request for additional funds. My unsolicited opinion would be to lea...

Try setting the "max groups" to 99. I am chatting with Alex on the same issue, I think, and this workaround was successful for me.

Usenet Explorer

I downloaded the trial version of UE last night, and it seems to handle the big binary groups much better than Newspro. I've used Newspro for years, and have always had to set retention down to 3 or 5 days in order to escape database errors or long delays in loading the program (with backup), filter...

I presume you're not using the database backup function . . . that is the only way, methinks, to restore back to a session start.

Message id-direct is only available on a server basis (not a newsgroup basis). If you enable it on a server, it will check that server for articles whether you've downloaded headers or not and whether they were present when the headers were downloaded or not.

Also, delete the message bodies that you no longer need. For each newsgroup (or folder), use the Message filter "With Bodies," then select all the messages that show up, right click and select "Delete Bodies." Usually, a database that size means you have a lot of binary file bodi...

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but here goes . . . Check both the newsgroup and server properties to be sure that both are set to natural retention (you can set both indepently). Then check to be sure there is no initial filter on the newsgroup (right click the newsgroup name and select re...

The purpose of the priorities is exactly what you want it to be. Taking the strict flag away will simply allow additional tasks to be added on the lower priority servers up to your overall maximum task limit. Example: Server A - priority 5, 4 task limit Server B - priority 4, 3 task limit Server C -...
