Antivirus / Firewall

Today I reinstalled EVERYTHING including my OS due to crashes that were occurring with UE. I have not gotten any UE crashes with the new setup. I have not reinstalled an antivirus or firewall package yet. I also have NOT reinstalled SP3 for XP. I would like to know what other UE users would recommen...

I am no longer getting that message and searches are successful.

However, they seem slower.

error messages

The crashing behavior appears to be fairly reproducible during heavy binary downloading. Here are 2 of about 8-10 error messages that piled on top of each other when UE crashed. http://zzzone.net/files/error1.jpg http://zzzone.net/files/error2.jpg In this particular case, closing and reopening the a...

UE crashes (avast firewall...)

I'm using UE 2.2. I've had about 3 apparent crashes over the last 2-3 weeks while UE was downloading binaries. On a couple of occasions I got a dialog error with a numerical error code. I had to reboot to get a return of functionality on one of these occasions. On the latest apparent crash, all down...

router

I reset the router yesterday.

Yes, I do manage to saturate my connection, regardless of the number of connections per server.

The lesson to me is to unsubscribe from one or more of my servers.

Thanks again, Alex.

further experiments

I have varied the number of "tasks" of my three servers. I am assuming that tasks=connections (at least when you are only downloading bodies). When I increase the tasks for the two OTHER newsgroup servers (usually above 5-10 each), the server in question (although it allows 20 connections)...

experiment

I decreased the number of tasks for the other two usenet servers to zero each.

When I did that, the usenet server in question then began downloading articles at high speed.

This suggests to me that I have some settings wrong in UE.

Thanks for your reply, Alex.

Varying Download Speeds between Various Usenet Servers

When downloading bodies from one of the larger binary groups (alt.binaries.sounds.lossless), I often find that one of my 3 usenet providers does not contribute to the download while the other 2 providers are see sawing back and forth in terms of download speed. I have a relatively fast connection so...

Another config question

How do I get UE to always display auto collections?

Another way of asking this is how do I always get the yellow auto collections to be depressed or selected?

Thanks. I am very familiar with that concept, but I had tried several times before being reassured by you that it was possible.

Docking Task Manager: resize?

I am trying to figure out how to resize the Task Manager window when it is docking at the bottom of the application below the Workspace.

Thanks.
