I often like to have threads opened when I am viewing binary groups. If you add the arrangement where once opened NP would preserve that setting for that ng, that would satisfy my wants. But it's not a biggie!

Thanks!

- dunno... :? works fine now! (it's still doing a search for monkees on a.b.vcd)(someone posted a ton of them!) And the only thing different I did was to completely destroy my XP opsys and regen it from scratch... (that was last night shot to hell!) :x :x :x And I figured with nothing in the registr...

Oh, hey Alex, I did have a soft question on the Server search thing - I created a folder and created a #group in it, and removed the verizon server from it so there's only one server attached to it, and did every search I could think of but couldn't get any results. Since I know there's still some D...

Thanks. I take them all cause I seem to be in there every day so a new header run for my 7 movie groups, on 2 servers, seems to take less than a minute. My prob is that I don't notice something (pauses to start NP to finish downloading queue!) and so I have to go back a few days to get it. 1-...

subject contains 'Dick van Dyke' ban. no quotes single or double, just the expression in the edit box. or you can use any wildmat: http://www.netwu.com/newspro/wildmat.htm or boolean wildmat - wildmats optionally in parentheses, | means OR, & - AND and ^ - NO http://www.netwu.com/newspro/filter...

filter question

filter question: If I want to exclude subjects containing Dick van Dyke (for example), how do I state this in a filter without losing Dick, or Van, or Dyke individually? Is it done with quotes? or how. If this is documented or explained in another post, please point me to that. (html pointer) edit: ...

Hi, at the moment I am beginning to think that disk fragmentation may be a huge prob - I will have to check it frequently. It is made worse that I have been testing other newsreaders lots in the same partition. Just a thought for you. re you - Given the choice, I would recreate the database. I delet...

Kollinsb: Update: I said "So if I click update groups in NP, the graph (...) looks shabby, and after a minute is solid at 190" I deleted the secondary server and now when I click to get new headers NP starts right out at 190KBs and stays solid. So something about adding a secondary server ...

Yay! Progress!!! I have a Verizon DSL connection that tests at 1.69 Mbps (1.45 to megapath) and usually maxes at 190KBps. Going against Astraweb, the plot looks pretty shabby with one thread running, but is solid 190 with 3 threads. I run 6 threads max, for what it's worth. So if I click update grou...

"if a server is only for fills and you don't need its headers - you can make it message-id direct and don't download headers for it - properties->servers, msg-id direct area." okay so I checked msgiddirect on the secondary, and detached the newsgroups from the secondary... But how will the...

"you don't need subsets for servers that are not related, subsets are only needed when you have provider restrictions, for example they limit the number of connections across several servers in one or another form." This question was for two names for astraweb: news.astraweb.com pbdl.news....
