Really, all you should need to do (if you do anything at all) is to adjust the priorities, putting the Euro server higher than the problematic one. Having said that, you know your own setup better than I do. I switched to Ngroups.net . For the price it's: A decent enough speed (I schedule through th...

Astraweb were always a bit flaky for me, even with the closer Euro server, so I switched. The best place to look for current news (their status page is usually weeks/months old) is on the NewsBin Pro forums where SteveF is the official Astraweb rep. A couple of recent threads at the top of that foru...

I think the code responsible for operations like saving are mostly pulled straight from NP. Alex can correct me on this if I'm wrong but if it's the case then there should be no difference between the two programs. It's certainly a strange situation. UE's big difference is the storage: the database ...

Flag them (Right-click->Mark->Flagged). I can't remember what the default key shortcut is, if it had one (I changed mine anyway). You'll still be able to delete them if you selected and deleted manually but flagged articles will be unaffected if you, for example, reset headers on the group(s). You c...

...so the program, not even mentioning the whole computer would remain responsive during saving... On mine I get temporary UE/system hangs during certain operations. There's nothing wrong with my system or UE - it's to do with my setup. I save to RAID 5 which begins calculating parity soon after I ...

Try just downloading an article first of all without saving it. After waiting for a moment to see if any of these symptoms happen, then save the article (while nothing else is downloading in the background) and see what happens then. Also, how many threads do you have enabled? (Properties->Tasks->To...

When you want to continue the Search Server licence, you just have to register UE again here.
I think it's about time Alex puts something like a link in UE's help menu or pops up a box when people search to take people straight to this.

Chkdsk reported nothing, I rolled back the settings (after first exiting and RARing up the entire settings directory). Everything seems fine again except for maybe a setting or two was different. The only settings I think I've changed recently were the times in the scheduler so I'm easily back up to...

Possible crash/log file request
Today I ran UE only to see the box asking if I wanted to rollback the settings, etc. saying no groups were associated (or words to that effect). I aborted, wanting to check out the log file in case last time I used it, UE had crashed. However, running UE again had written a login message to it anywa...

Check you don't have a disabled server. For example, if you have a few servers which have low retention or different available groups but another (disabled) server which would pick the articles up then you would still see slight bandwidth usage as the low retention servers are in use (returning no s...

If the UPS software controlling the emergency shutdown procedures utilises wake on LAN then maybe it was triggered when AC power was restored for however long.
