Is there a way to change the port for the Search Service? There used to be but you could only change between the three I mentioned earlier anyway. Now it's all done dynamically. There may be some way of doing it through a proxy and port forwarding or the like. However, this would be a workaround an...

The ports in use by the Search Service are (or at least were) 2020, 2021 and 2022. Check that they are open in any firewalls on the network. It's a pity UE doesn't use something common like port 80 to simplify matters.

When did you last do a search? I had to add a new IP to my firewall recently when I did a search so if you haven't searched in the past few days it could be that. Check your firewall if you have one: either disable it temporarily, allow UE full access or remove UE from the rules and try again. If yo...

Not at all. Copy the entire UE directory/subdirectories/database directory to the destination, recreate a shortcut to UE.exe, start UE and point it to the correct location of the database. As ever, make a separate backup of your Settings directory in case of something unforeseen. It'll take a bit mo...

Re: Same symptom, different cause!

Wrong. Sorry. What I described is what happens actually. In which case it would be a matter for Alex to look into. UE has always (personally speaking) retried any articles that failed after a dropped connection (though I very rarely have had those except for network timeouts). There may be some oth...

Re: Same symptom, different cause!

If you lose your connection, UE will begin the download of the segment that was in progress as the connection was terminated. Therefore, UE would not save an incomplete segment to disk until it was downloaded 100%. ...connection to the net is reset (power surge or whatever). A power surge is more li...

I've just run a test of the same procedure in VMWare (clean XP Pro snapshot) and it worked as I expected: all groups and servers are present. I copied over everything minus the Bodies directory, which UE just recreated itself. Did you make sure to copy your UE directory and everything inside it? Was...

Copy your entire UE directory to the new computer, start UE and you will be presented with a 'Browse for database folder' dialogue. Select your DB directory and at some point I imagine UE will ask you to input your serial. Other than that, you'll probably have to set up your default save directories...

In the workspace go to the Newsgroup list tab. Right click on whichever server you want to check and select 'Use the server for 'articles' column' then open the list and click the articles column header to sort it. All groups on other servers will show as 'n/a' and any matching your selected server ...

646MB is an odd size. UE will download all segments of an article until they are all present and then combine them, meaning you will have files of the same size as each segment. Unless you mean 646Kb in which case that would sound about right. What you can do is close UE, make a copy of the database...

You can "move" your document folder in XP and Vista to anywhere you like. I've done this many times for people: Install Windows on the first partition, point My Documents to the second partition and then boot the system with Acronis and image the boot partition to an Acronis Secure Zone. ...

Also, it would be nice to be able to configure the path to the import folder. Good point, although this doesn't bother me all that much since I can use recent locations (in standard Vista Open/Save dialogues) but I did have to use third party software in XP to get around. I agree it would be nice a...

REQ: Import action tweak

Currently I download NZBs to my Import directory, run UE and they import. However, UE will load, import, save and then unload the Import group. This isn't as fast as it could be for me. I'd like UE to load the Import group, import the NZB(s) and then open the group ready for me to work with. This ma...
