Re: i am testing ngroups now

I don't see an option for traceroute on their homepage. But may not be necessary because there is only 1 ssl server? Hostname: news.ssl.ngroups.net IP Address: 208.49.82.58 Use tracert to run the traceroute. Ok, i did. the first 8 have up to 11 ms. Then 4 with 115-150 ms. The first ping is to the a...

i am testing ngroups now

i have now a subscription, unmetered, 1 month with ngroups. When i activated ssl, i can use one server for ssl: news.ssl.ngroups.net with 12 connections. The speed goes up and down betweem 800-1040 or so. The speed is clearly slower then with using news.ue.ngroups.net, because this one gives 1040 Mb...

Maybe the best thing for me to do is just to try a month an ssl capable server, and see how fast and complete it is.
Because it might be completely depending on the geographic location of my or yours, or others computers (and of course from the time one is downloading).

So it looks like UNS is also a serious candidate.

I had it some years ago already but then suddenly UNS became very unstable and lots of losses on articles. But that problems will be gone i suppose. And now they have SSL for free.... Starting to get interested.

With Ngroups you have to login to your account to activate SSL. Upon activating, you are given server and port details. This is effectively a third server you can use and is separate from the other two. SSL does not activate on the other two. This is why I think it appears faster for me - not as ma...

[quote="alex"]so NGroups netherlands server doesn't support SSL then, but their UNS server does. So it might be that the UNS server is fast enough in my case. Now i can download up to 8 Mb/sec because of internet speed limitations of my isp. Probably that is no problem to reach nowadays, b...

Thanks for the answers. I will probably step over to another server with ssl support like you supported. I will postpone it somewhat because i have a 1 year subscription for another pay server ( ). First will check out when it ends. But if the new law really sets in of course i only will use n...

how to best hide data transport via usenet for other people?

What would be the easiest or bet method to hide my downloading from other people? I already know the dutch government already monitors and records email, and other internet activities. So probably also the usenet. They say for anti-criminality and anti-terrorism and so on. Now one minister is talkin...

If in doubt about the hard disc. Could you complete reformat the hard disc and try again?
I for example, have usenet explorer, the database and the downloaded files on one data hard disc (so no windows installed in there).
Then just format the whole hard disc and reinstall usenet explorer.

so, you used AVAST? I also use AVAST antivirus on windows xp on this computer. And today i found out that AVAST causes problems with downloading speed. When avast is running, download speeds heavily varies between 0.3 MB/sec and 1.05 MB/sec. Maybe because avast is checking things out when downloadin...
