Long filenames/subject line problem

Post by Archibald »

When using the option to save a group of files into a folder automatically created from the subject line, this can create a situation where the filenames are too long to fit into the new folder.

For example, a nitwit in ab.sounds.lossless has posted something with this subject line:

(01/60) "Monster Magnet - Greatest Hits (2003-EU)(AM Records CAT 0602498081952) FLAC(...--- http://www.usenetrevolution.info sponsored by http://www.newsconnection.eu---...).nfo" - 734,39 MB - yEnc (1/1)

Everything within quotes is the filename! Even with a short pathname to your download folder, it's easy to exceed the maximum allowable depth. Mine is simply "\UE DLs\Lossless" and that added too much!

The problem is that the unique part of the filename is only the last few characters, so if you have Overwrite Duplicate Filenames set, each new file has the exact same filename after truncation so it gets overwritten over and over until at the end you are left with just one file.

In cases like this, can the automatically named folder be shortened as needed? Or at least pause those files in the queue with an error message so a ton of files aren't downloaded over each other?
