Usenet Explorer

Now that Usenet Explorer is out...

I'd like ot know what that means for the future of NewsPro.

Will development continue or is Usenet Explorer intended to replace NewsPro meaning that development on NewsPro will eventually cease?

I've gotten used to NewsPro and have little (if any) problems with it so I'm a little reluctant to change news readers...

i cannot change significantly newspro performance characteristics but i can easily work with the code if necessary (e.g. a bug or something new on the usenet requiring adjustments, like e.g. update of yenc encoding).

from other side missing newspro features might make it into ue although probably in a different form, since i cannot reuse the code directly.

ue reliability looks satisfactory, although since it is a fresh code it took quite an effort to achieve it, but potentially it can be made more reliable than newspro, because of its framework even without taking into account fault tolerancy.

so you don't have to change programs.

I figured you would have but couldn't find it.... sorry for asking an already answered question.

Personally I have no complaints about NewsPro's performance or reliability, but then I'm more a casual user rather than a "heavy hitter".

Cool! Of course I'll look at Usenet Explorer just because I'm so impressed with NewsPro, but unless Usenet Explorer has some really compelling feature, I'll most likely keep using NewsPro for now....

the programs have different engines, but in both cases it is software so no wear and the mileage is not limited, if you don't need large volumes (e.g. to invoke operations which take too long or consume too much memory in newspro but are very fast in ue) or other things like fault tolerancy no need to change. if there will be usenet developments like what happened with yenc i'll adjust newspro as well.
