I seem to be having the same issue where I cannot download/upload anything with a sporge attack in 0day. Here is what I tried to do to fix it:

1. Download and install newspro 3.8
2. Set the following options in newspro:

This didn't seem to work at all. Newspro will download the individual parts, and will not assemble the complete file. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Brian

just use 'save' to save the attachments after newspro has downloaded the bodies, although as a rule 'download&save' should work.

it looks like the question is not related to the sporge topic.

Could you explain in simple words what a sporge attack is?

I don't get it really. If I know what it is, I could look for it in my downloads.

I always download attachments, and they are automatically saved.
Only when the files are partial, i have to do a manual save of the downloaded files to the folder I want. And that always works. That means I don't have troubles with that sporge attack?

Here is my setup:

1. usenetserver priority 128S
2. easynews priority 1S

I cannot download ANY alt.binaries.ware.pc.0-day abwi0 post that is mult-part. Let me walk you through what happens when I attempt to download a multi-part file:

3 parts:
abwi0: Barefoot_IP_Monitor_v4.6_Incl_Keygen-UCF - "ucfipm46.zip"

I filtered out the following post, and viewed it by unticking the autosupport for partial messages, so I could view all 3 parts. Note that I can see the assembled 3-part file anyways. I select download immediately and view the Task Manager to see what is going on.

The Task Manager displays usenetserver downloading parts 1, 2, and 3 successfully, then easynews downloads parts 1, 2, and 3 again! This would be fine, but the bodies are never displayed as downloaded! Thus, there is no way to view/save the file. This appears to be due to the sporge attack because I can download any other file in 0-day but the abwi0 posts!

you should see the question sign if a download has failed.
check in tasks menu->task manager, the error pane what are the errors.

it might be yenc checksum error, bad message-id (with 3.8 you can even download such an article to see what is inside), etc.

it cannot just ignore tasks, if downloads succeed - you see the body icon, if not - the question sign

i've just downloaded the article you mentioned, no problem at all, zip opened ok, also there is no sign of the sporge attack against this particular post (used xpat search group to locate it).

ubject: abwi0: Barefoot_IP_Monitor_v4.6_Incl_Keygen-UCF - "ucfipm46.zip" (1/3) yEnc - 1 of 1 ... (3/3) - Reassembly

check the error pane, i guess you'll see something there.

Well,

After attempting to troubleshoot newspro for a while, I discovered that my FTP client was no longer working. It looks like my windows XP install has become corrupted, and I can only browse the web.. So I copied my newspro folder to another computer and it works fine! Thanks for the help and advice!
