Feature request: "Search" on the Watch/Auto header
Feature request: "Search" on the Watch/Auto header
Like the "Watch/Auto headers" with autosave, where you can create a filter and then watch a specific group and save specific files - I would like if it was possible to use Search instead of getting headers.
Although it looks like a good idea, I am a little concerned on the impact on the searchserver. What will happen if some eager users are using this to watch through the server every 10 minutes or so on a bunch of filters?
Or am I overconcerned and will the server cope with this without problems...

Alex could hard code the minimum frequency to whatever he thinks is a reasonable amount of time. From my point of view, if I am to be out of the house all day long, I only really want to have what I need downloaded in time for me getting back again. I don't see any need for something like this to run every few minutes - maybe once per half hour or hour would be enough because you'd need time to wait for propagation anyway. Let's face it, people can just sit there and run searches every few seconds manually anyway so this would lessen the strain to a certain degree if people think that UE is set to do what they need and that's all they need to do. Set it and forget it, essentially.
i'm not exactly there to decide now about the matter, as to the search service, next thing i may do some optimizations on the backup server.
when using watch on headers as it is now we don't download all headers everytime we apply a watch but only using newly incoming headers as the input, if to engage the feature on search directly without changing the server it is like it would need to get all headers every time (and it is not even news server with unlimited bandwidth, but much more limited in bandwidth resource), i'm not sure about more complicated way like registering watch requests on the server, probably too cumbersome and may not work.
maybe i'll reconsider feasibility later, right now other work may still lie ahead.
