upgrade 2.0 to 2.2?

Tried to upgrade to version 2.2 today by overwriting the old 2.0 executable

UE is now completely broken, search hangs... cancelling the search results in the search button becoming unavailable

Downloads dont work, still had a list of files in my import folder and they wont download, they just sit there at 0%

Closing down UE fails as well, freezes at the 'aborting tasks' even if I've not tried a search or download (i.e. start it up and close it down without using it) and have to resort to task manager to close it.

All these problems after I've just yesterday renewed the license for it... gone back to v2.0 which still works with the new license info.

Redownloaded and extracted v2.2, still same problems..... any help greatly appreciated

Sounds like a firewall is not happy with the new executable.
If not maybe you can try a fresh database for test only

Agreed. Go into your firewall and either set it to ignore changed executables for UE or delete it, run UE again and re-add it when you get the popup. Then you should be back on your Stairway to Downloading.

first thing i tried was disabling the firewall no luck

Changing the database did work though

if it works already, switch to the old database, it should work as well.

maybe after disabling the firewall the change had effect only after reboot or only some time.

the database format didn't change, all those search hangs can be only caused by firewall not adjusted to the new executable, search hang only means the connection is not released by the lower socket level (which is in your case is managed by the firewall), it is an elementary operation, just one line of code which closes the socket, nothing can be broken there and no relation whatsoever to the database.

v2.2 contains only v2.0 refinements, there are no drastic changes.

if you didn't delete the old database you can switch to it through edit menu->properties->general->database folder, change to verify it works now.
