auto collections does not stick

I am probably doing something stupid, but since I did a clean install on my computer (2.2.1) auto collection is not selected when I start UE. I am pretty sure UE used to remember if it was selected before.

Am I missing something obvious?

auto collections are enabled by default (default = new installs), so UE is by default collection-capable, otherwise the collection button will be completely disabled at all times, but the collection button is not checked by default when you open a newsgroup.

edit menu->properties->newsgroups, the topmost "default" entry, change collections from i think default is "Custom" to "Auto&Custom".
