Handling broken posts with NULL as file name

Post by vwgolfman »

EDIT: I seem to have the problem outlined below when the attachment filenames are all "NULL".
Each time an attachment is saved it overwrites the previously saved attachment as every attachment in the RAR archive has the same filename "NULL".

What is happening here?

.......................

Hi,
I am using Usenet Explorer 2.7.1 (32 bit) and keep losing files.

I highlight headers (often containing RAR files as bodies), select "Download and Save Attachments Ctrl +D" and select a folder but find that sometimes the RAR's are not saved to that folder.
Sometimes I return to my computer after a lot of data has been downloaded but cannot find that data (it is not in the folder I selected for download).

Please help.

Also what is the difference between...
Download and Save Immediately
and
Download and Save Immediately (Auto) ?

Also What is the difference between...
Download and Save Immediately
and
Download and Save Attachments? (apart from the immediately)

Many thanks for any help

Check the message headers just download (don't save) and doubleclick on the message in the download pane. Or alternatively if download&save - suspend save queue and click on the message in the save pane.

You'll see newsbin as a poster and (NULL) as the file name in every file.

It is very old issue, why they don't fix it I have no idea, e.g. UE poster works flawlessly and reliably. You may try to ask them on their forum.

You can use UE auto-rename duplicates option in properties->save/unpack, save, duplicates, but better set it back to overwrite afterwards to avoid cases when multiple saves may happen on single attachment e.g. with no such article errors and new parts arriving from time to time.

UE will also rename those files restoring the original names if they are not damaged if there is par2 file as well.

To answer your other questions:

"Download and Save Immediately" will prompt you for a save path.
"Download and Save Immediately (Auto)" will auto name the folder based on the subject in the directory you have set under Newsgroup properties in the "Save" field.

"Download and Save Immediately (Auto)" will auto name directory as above, and queue the task with a priority of "Highest"
"Download and Save Attachments" will prompt you for a save path and queue the task with a priority of "Normal"
