Is there a way to set a newsgroup so that it has, say 50 days of header info, and let it age in? That is, tomorrow the oldest header will be 51 days, the day after 52, etc. I don't want to purge headers until they're 500 days old.
I want to keep getting new headers, but not attempt to re-get the old ones.
So far, when I set retention to 500, the next header get goes back 500 days and tries to re-get all those headers. I have a very slow internet connection and want to avoid that, but I don't want to lose headers that are over 50 days.
Help?
thanks, Larry
Keeping old headers without re-getting
Re: Keeping old headers without re-getting
Set retention initially to 50 days.
Then download headers.
Then change retention to 500 days, when exiting the properties dialog it will ask if to redownload headers in affected newsgroups, select no.
Edit menu->properties->general, retention, ensure "Quick" is checked and maybe "Let all incoming headers through" since the headers are downloaded anyway; if quick retention doesn't work it means some problem with article numbering on the server.
If you mean something different try to elaborate further.

Thanks Alex. I thought doing that *might* work, but if it didn't I didn't want to be stuck.
