Great idea about the built-in kill filter. How do I go about nominating someone?
There's a lot of spam being posted in a.b.hdtv with random characters for the subject and random characters for the author. I hope there's something you could see to block them all out.
thanks, Larry
Built-in kill filter
Re: Built-in kill filter
Can you pm me an example?
I see nothing out of ordinary.
I didn't include "normal" posts (subject and/or author random, but the post is not in many small chunks taking hundred thousands of lines in the header view).
It is just to prevent the header view from exploding, since it is tricky to add a regular kill filter which could handle that issue.

Re: Built-in kill filter
Arg! I just set up a very long list of ...&^this_author&^this_other_author&^... to empty the group out, it was getting just too huge.
I may have the particular group wrong, but others (in the newgroup itself) have complained. I'll send you a copy as soon as I see one again. They were really flooding in.
Speaking of which, I am majorly disappointed in how Giganews handles complaints about this. I would think that as Giganews they have all sorts of resources to call upon to investigate, but no. If I have a complaint *I've* got to provide them with the proof of who it is and they're only interested at all if I can show them its someone posting directly to Giganews. I would think they'd be interested in stopping floods because A) it wastes their disk space and time -and- B) it makes their product less satisfying to their customers. I bet a lot of people give up when their news reader crashes or takes hours to read the headers that should only take a few minutes.

Re: Built-in kill filter
Do you have the built-in kill filter enabled?
What is the date range of those headers?
I don't notice any problem in alt.binaries.teevee, I'm downloading now headers for the last 30 days, looks ok.
