Downloading 'parent' deletes the siblings?

Post by sturkimov »

Hi there..

Some time people post files in a thread, so, there's a parent, and then a lot of siblings. But when I download the parent, Newspro deletes the headers of the sibling as well - which means I have to show deleted headers, and since I delete headers after download, it has to be done before leaving the group.

So can I get around this issue, and still keep the threading feature?

initially - a long time ago - it was not deleting replies in a thread but the straightforward deleting (which is easier to implement), but if to choose between the two options such approach will clearly render all text capabilites useless.

there is a possibility that it will be an option (to delete with replies or not), but you'll then need to delete every incoming reply which is bothersome.

so as it stands now newspro deletes with replies, apart from show deleted (which you can invoke at any time unless purging is enabled), you can mark such headers read instead - if you expect something later.

Alex, I don't know what you mean by this. I have often wondered why NP can't treat threads the same way Outlook Express does: new replies are always shown, irregardless if the parent is deleted or not.

I know this has been addressed before, but there certainly are times where a reply is unexpected, but potentially important (e.g. a warning that a file/posting is corrupted or some other useful info), that would be lost if the parent is deleted first. Or even if one believes a thread to be finished, when in fact it is not. This is why I don't use NP for reading messages in text NGs.

Hi Alex, i just notiched the same problem, downloaded ( with xpath) some files, but i mised a lot of files (first i thougth the poster was stopped) but later i found out that the parts that where into a thread not where downloaded... just in time :o (retention and so).. couldn't this be (youpieee an other ) option or so ?

[Edit] This happend with a 40 gig post... so a lot of work to do.. each time , show deleted headers... find the posted parts.. do i have this.. etc etc [/Edit]
