Headers download but do not appear .

Post by hwylie »

On version 3.81 and the prior release I can attach newsgroups to the server. When I try to download any headers, they appear to be received but never appear in any count fields, each newsgroup shows "empty". The time it takes to transmit down headers is proportional to their numbers so I believe they are actually be recieved. It appears they are being filtered out completely after reception by Newspro. I have no filters set and have cleared anything that looks like a filter. I checked the firewall software (Panda) and Newspro has complete access. I've reinstalled the Newspro product several times in the current and new directories, switched databases with no change in this problem. The newsreader in MS Outlook Express works fine with all headers being downloaded and accessible.

Any ideas?

Also, I've noticed prior to this failure that periodically "all" Newspro settings get flushed, i.e. servers, groups , headers, etc...

Office 2003 has been by only new install other than W2K updates. I'm current with MS latest releases.

check the program is registered in help menu->about, invoke file menu->reset database once.

but settings shouldn't disappear.

win2k was the most unreliable system, i estimate it was a move towards xp, winnt was the best from the point of reliability, xp is quite manageable.

does newspro shows any bandwidth when it downloads headers? bandwidth is a good indicator of what is coming in (tasks menu->task manager).

Tried everything mentioned with no results - No headers

The product is registered. I registered it again today. I reset the database once. Bandwidth is being utilized for header and newsgroup downloads. When I have done a group download from the news server I get a group count within the parenthesis. Server shows a green dot while downloading. I also get the violet screen during the download as the listing of newsgroups is built.

When I select a group to subscribe to and request all headers the
"Book" opens a green dot appears and task bandwidth indicates there is the appropriate amount of traffic. The download stops the green dot goes off and the selected group shows (Empty) and no headers appear.

Additionally, when I click on the "Server/Antenna" tab the News Server shows: news.web-ster.com (empty) 87.08M
When I click on the "Newsgroup list" tab I get:
Newsgroup List <#> [32089]
|_ news.web-ster.com [32089]

And after any download all the Newsgroups show [empty]

Any further thoughts?

i mean you open tasks menu->task manager, bandwidth shown in the bottom KB/sec.

invoke edit menu->show deleted headers; check in properties->kill filters that nothing is there (select everything and press 'clear').

ensure you didn't define initial filter (to reset filters for the current window edit menu->message filter, reset).

if you think you changed something in settings like above so not to enumerate everything possible - in addition to deleting the database also delete the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Albir
