I lost some icons in default toolbar but can't get them back

Somehow I have about 10 icons in the default toolbar that are only vaguely visible. So i cannot click on them anymore.

Like "clear error"and "show thread". Whatever i try i cannot get them back.
Next to the big A on the right, "add or remove buttons - customize" at that instant i see all buttons again.
then "reset toolbar" . After that i do "close" and the buttons are lost again (vague again i mean). I tried a lot of things, but it does not work for me.

Probably it is some mistake of me, but who knows.
Also strange: i once clicked on "clear error" and the button did not reappear anymore aftwerwards.

try to delete all api files in the settings directory (you can leave shortcuts section in api.ini if you have defined shortcuts).

they are mostly created by third party graphic library, i fixed there bugs i could find, but it is not my code.

i did it, but does not help.

i also tried closing and restarting program but did not work.

maybe i just should delete the whole database, and reinstall usenet explorer?

with:

file - default toolbar - global view

many come back. And those remain when i close the global view.

only missing:
"clear error" (because maybe there are no errors?)
"initial filter" (maybe i must make an initial filter)
and : "filter" but this one shows up when using a filter

if in windows explorer, in UE.exe properties->compatibility you disable visual themes it is the same?

you don't need to delete anything, you can rename the database directory and create a new one, or just run another instance, ue doesn't use windows registry so database is completely self-contained.

maybe email me your settings directory i'll check it here, maybe it will look the same, are you using windows xp theme?

Now that only the "clear" and the "initial filter" button is not working,
I indeed tried "no visual themes" option. But the error i had is not coming back. Only what remains is that the "clear all" button does not reappear.
And maybe the "initial filter" button also does not appear. But should the initial filter button appear always?

initial filter button is enabled only when the current newsgroup view has initial filter, otherwise it is disabled but it is still visible as disabled.

can you email me a screenshot?

so that looks ok then.

the "clear errors" button is visible but disabled.

I wil have to look for a screenshot program first, that is if you still need a screenshot?

all is ok with your settings.

the initial filter button is disabled because the group doesn't have an initial filter.

the filter button is disabled because the view is not filtered (you didn't select a filter from the combo box).

the clear errors button is disabled because there are no errors.

sometimes (maybe not always) i disable controls to indicate some connection, also in the watch/auto properties pane.

suddenly the clear errors button reappeared and i pressed it.
and then it is waiting for a new error.

Somehow i think that the error was not really present in the program, but
maybe it was my mistake thinking there was an error. So i think this is my error, sitting too much behind the computer in my holiday and than making judgement errors.

So maybe we just forget about this problem and move forwards.
