How to apply kill filters

Post by Rimsky »

I've managed to create a kill filter, but how do I apply it?
I'm trying to switch from NP to UE and looking for new ways to do familiar things.

Make sure that the filter is made available as a kill filter in filter editor, then go to Edit->Properties->Kill Filters and apply the filter to your folders/groups of choice. If you want it to apply to all groups, simply apply it to the "newsgroups" entry at the top of the list.

Hope this helps!

That's what I did. I created a kill filter which contains .jpg as Predicate - subject contains. When I open the group, Properties, Select killfilter, Add and do Apply, or even OK, the *.jpg messages remain visible in the group and are not deleted. What am I doing wrong?
In newspro I used to do Ctrl-S, type in the expression and press the delete button. Is there a similar/better way to do this in UE?

AFAIK, kill filters are only applied on new headers as they are downloaded. That's why you see nothing happening immediately after activating the filter.

I think so. But of course you can use the same filter as a view filter and then manually delete the corresponding headers. You would only have to do this once though; the kill filter will take care of the new headers.
