Quick Search bar question

Post by germike »

I am using the evaluation period of UE to see if i like it.
So far so good, it's very fast !

A question about the "quick search bar" :
The "size" box does not seem to work as i expect it to :

- When i type 500 in the size box, nothing happens
- When i click the rightmost button on the search bar i get blue points next to posts.

I expect that the size bar works the same as when searching for a string in the quick search bar. When i type f.e. "movie" all posts which do not contain that word dissapear like they should. However when i type 500 (for post bigger than 500k) nothing dissapears. I expect that all posts below 500k dissapear from view.

I hope i explained it cleary, english is not my first language.
Also a good manual/help is missing, there a lot's of options and advanced features that are not so easy to understand. The current internet based "manual" is way too short for such an advanced program.

Thanks for any help.

Use operators for greater than, less than, equal to, etc.

e.g. in your case use '>500' in the size box.

As to the manual, it's a well known fact that real programmers hate documenting their code. If you need answers the best place to look is here in this forum. Alex keeps mentioning about the documentation but I'm sure it'll arrive slowly rather than quickly.

That's it , thx !

As for the docs ; it's really important cause otherwise casual users (like myself) will never discover 50% of the features.

The documentation is a double-edged sword, really. If Alex spent more time focussing on the manual he'd spend less time on UE. Then we'd have better documentation of an inferior newsreader. Personally I'd prefer having UE blowing the competition away and having to resort to asking questions here rather than it lacking the power and performance I need.

That's why I mention asking here about anything you're curious about. Hopefully Alex is keeping a regular backup of the forum. There's been lost data before and a whole wealth of useful information was unfortunately lost.

Very true what you write about the time needed to write documentation.
Alex does not have to do it, maybe someone with a lot of expierence with UE (and lots of spare time) can write a short "by function" manual.

If i ever get enough expierence with UE i'll volunteer myself, the "not all that great english" will be included though :)

Quite honestly, UE is so far ahead of the pack that even if there aren't any updates for 2 months, I think we're fine :) Honestly, I have no feature request that is that critical that I can think of.

I love UE :D

If you've missed it, I'll point you to this link, a tutorial written by another member of this forum, Jaapf.
