Filter for complete files

Post by SteveC »

Back with NewsPro, when I made watch filters to search for text strings, NewsPro marked the message bodies for download once they were complete and not when they were partials.

How can I get the same behavior with UE? If I do a watch filter on author contains dave, it downloads and saves even partials from dave, causing me to save bad files. Generally the rest of the parts do show up later, but its too late as the first set of parts were already deleted and it's hard to see what is going on.

So, I tried a composite filter of complete&dave where complete is NOT message is partial. This doesn't mark anything for download! Perhaps this doesn't work as the bodies are seen as elements of an incomplete collection?

So how can I get the old NewsPro behavior with bodies being downloaded when they become complete?

thanks!

probably what you need is to change settings - uncheck properties->articles->saving attachments->delete incomplete bodies so incomplete bodies won't be deleted, then when new parts arrive the attachment will be saved again, just sometimes you'll have to delete incomplete bodies manually then, the default is to delete them so not to increase the size of database directory for users unaware about the option.

Hi Alex,

I had found that option and tried using it. It is still somewhat error prone - what if I don't notice that there were partials left behind - it is easy to delete them. I can cope with this behavior, but I preferred the NewsPro way. In NewsPro, I think, partials could be downloaded, but would never be saved unless you did an explicit Save Attachments call.

I will probably get used to the new behavior.

the difference is with the option unchecked UE saves attachments but keeps the bodies as long as they are incomplete and it still won't save them as long as some bodies can be downloaded, so in newspro you had to save incompetes manually, in ue with the modified option you need to delete them manually.

bodies don't consume processor time or RAM, you can just check edit menu->bodies rarely, sort them by date and delete old bodies.
