UE Properties --> Articles --> duplicate file names

Post by newzlurker »

The selection for the option in subject includes 'skip'. So if I understand this correct, this means that if a file with the same name is marked for 'Download & Save' to the same directory, it should not be saved.

In version 1.7.3 this does not seem to work. Could this be a bug?

do you save from article view or from newsgroup view?

if you save from article view it should give warning, from newsgroup view the skip option should work though.

try to save a file from newsgroup view with the skip option on, then copy its name and replace it with another file with the same name, then save it again, do you see the replaced or the latter file?

saving is from newsgroup view using 'download & save' command

I checked the suggestion and the file is indeed not replaced. The header however is processed as if the file was saved. So the header and body get deleted (in my case).

I would expect that if a duplicate file is detected, the whole proces of saving and deleting the body and header is 'skipped'. The row should in fact stay untouched.

i think it is not true, i've just seen the opposite here.

i save attachment, then set the duplicate file mode to skip, save again, nothing is saved and nothing is marked read or deleted.

try to check it yourself, it is very easy to verify. maybe you tried to save into a different destination folder, it is how the behaviour could be explained, if the header has been deleted - look for the attachment elsewhere on the hard drive.
