After downloading my list of newsgroups, how do I search for specific groups without having to scroll through a list of over 100,000 groups?
I'm using the trial version, and finding it even more difficult to use than X-news, which is saying something. It seems an interesting program. I like its features, but the 'Help' section leaves a bit to be desired.

Finding specific newsgroups after downloading the list
Re: Finding specific newsgroups after downloading the list
In the Quick Filter bar under the menu, type part of the name of any group(s) you are looking for into the 'Name:' field. You can use an ampersand to narrow down your search, e.g. 'alt&binaries'. Similarly, you can use a pipe as an OR operator, e.g. 'svcd|dvd'.iverazzia wrote:After downloading my list of newsgroups, how do I search for specific groups without having to scroll through a list of over 100,000 groups?
I've often stated to others that they should stick with UE and get past the relatively steep learning curve. I can do that again in your case. Maybe fifteen days is way too short considering all that UE has to offer and that learning curve. However, support is available here to answer any questions you may have.iverazzia wrote:I'm using the trial version, and finding it even more difficult to use than X-news, which is saying something. It's a well known phenomena that programmers hate documentation. Alex is no exception. You'll also note that he never uses capitalisation in his posts, a-la certain types of programmers - they just spit out the text while it's in their mind. I'd just rather have a great news client that I have to figure out a little bit rather than some shoddy software that has flashy help files. That and the fact that I can minimise UE so it uses less than 3.5MB RAM and utilises minimal CPU usage.

Thanks for the answer. As far as writing documentation for the program goes, this one *really* needs it, whether it be a daunting task or not. This program is highly complex for even someone like myself who has used other newsreaders over the years.Josef K wrote:In the Quick Filter bar under the menu, type part of the name of any group(s) you are looking for into the 'Name:' field. As for support in this forum, it would help as long as their aren't any of the usual wisemouth jerks in here as their are in too many of the Usenet groups these days.
I really do like the potential of using UE. I guess I'll tuff it out for the few weeks of the trial period and see how it goes.
Thanks again

There's none of that here - we're a good bunch. It helps that Alex is pretty much on the ball when it comes to being Admin.iverazzia wrote:As for support in this forum, it would help as long as their aren't any of the usual wisemouth jerks in here as their are in too many of the Usenet groups these days.
Any questions about UE - just ask.
