When I download headers from a very big group, sometimes there are missing headers (in the middle) that I try to fill in. (Usually it is due to computer crash.)
For example, in one of the newsgroup that I downloaded recently, I get all the headers from May 1 -15, but the headers from May 15-30 are missing, then I get the headers from June 1 to now.
Is there a way to fill in the incomplete headers (in the example above is the one from May 15-30) without resetting the headers and redo everything ?
Thank you for your assistance.
Filling incomplete headers ?
do you have periodic save all set (in properties->general)?
it saves the state so if download has been interrupted in the middle it will be resumed from the save all point in the case of catastrophic failure (like blue screen when UE isn't given time to save all and exit gracefully).
otherwise interrupting is safe, you can kill UE at any time and database should remain consistent but not necessarily up to date, but if you save all say every 30 minutes - on average 30/2=15 minutes of header downloads will be lost.
as to downloading bodies every part is committed to the database immediately after completing its download so everything is preserved.
but you also could try to address the system crash cause, it is most likely some third party driver or less likely some hardware problem like faulty memory.
also there are options to download headers e.g. from 15-30 days in properties->newsgroups, although if you want it fast you better set "headers per server" range instead, then when you change settings back after downloading desired headers i think it will ask you whether you want to redownload rest of headers and if you tell "no" it won't.
