No connection

Post by ProUser »

I'm a long-time user of NewsPro, and I love it. It is the only Newsreader I use (and I use it on a daily basis)

However, when I see an new Newsreader application, built upon NewsPro, I'm curious and I downloaded the trial version. Now my problem starts.

I get the following error when trying to access my newsservers (from two different newsserver providers):

"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.(System:10061)"

it is your firewall, check in your firewall permissions that the program can access newsservers you are using.

I get the same error regardless if the firewall is enabled or disabled.

I know that the newsservers are working, since I can access them with NewsPro. I have also the same server configuaration info in both NewsPro as in UE.

try to restart the program after you've disabled the firewall, also check edit menu->properties->proxies you didn't put anything there.

in the past it was always firewall to blame.

Thanks Alex,

It was the firewall, but not a simple fault.

I changed antivirus and firewall application from Norton to ZoneAlarm a couple of months ago. Apparently there were some parts of Norton firewall that was not properly removed when I removed Norton.

After I had done a registry clean the UE application worked like a charm.

If your service rotates DNS/IPs, you might wanna flush your DNS cache if it happens again. I just discovered that invalid routings can return the 10061 as well.
