Clearing Search field contents?

Once you have entered something in the search field (subject, author, etc) is there a way to remove that word/phrase from the field? I've tried the delete button to no avail and right-clicking doesn't bring up any menu. I like using that search window, but the list is getting too long.

Using the Edit -> Clear History works, thanks Josef! I just wish there was a way to delete just the field I wanted and not all of them.
Highlighting and using Esc, Del, or Backspace does not work. thanks anyway.

Field? Or portion of a field? Click it (it auto highlights), hit Esc, it goes away and the filter is reapplied as modified.
I don't know !~ L(

You just need to highlight the search wording and then hit delete. Then hit enter. That will clear any search terms or words and show you the complete groups again. you can look in the subject drop down menu and all of your history should still be there. This way you never lose the history of your search criteria and you can use the dropdown to reload a favorite search subject. };->

I don't want to speak for the poster, but I think that he already knows how to delete a search term while it's in the box - I think he would like to delete some terms from the list of "history." In other words, leave the good search strings and delete the ones that aren't so good (or the ones that contain something like:
*boobs*&*blonde*&(*jpg*|*jpeg*)
if he is worried about his woman checking up on him)!
