Good to back here Alex. Since I am registered now can you please help with a problem I am having with binary groups. I am trying to download from alt.binaries....xbox and unles I select Article Numbers I cannot seem to download anything. Selecting compact, or message-id lets me get the headers, but when i try to get the binary, nothing happens. I am using newsfeeds for my service. Any issues I should know about? What am i doing wrong?

I don't mind using article numbers, but if I am correct this is not a very efficient way to get headers especially with large groups.

I have been chatting with Newsfeeds this morning. They seem to be clueless. It is strange that I did not have this problem with the earlier versions of UE. Any thoughts on why this would be? I huess that Newsfeeds may have changed something on thier end. I their a setting that I may be missing in UE to correct this or is it all Newsfeeds problem. I like the service and would hate to fire them, but UE is the only reader that i will use.

if you want to use newsfeeds as long they have this problem and you stumble into it you need to run ue in newspro like mode (it is not called "newspro mode" just it means certain settings), it is written somewhere else, in short you need to use article number type of groups and in properties->articles, download body method set to 'article number'.

currently newsfeeds support don't answer my emails, when they had live support chat working and i was talking to their representative they were telling me the problem has been fixed but it wasn't.

if you tell newsfeeds support the group and the articles which failed they will know what it is very well and fix the particular instance of the problem fast, just newsreader asks by message-id and the server returns no such article, but if newsreader asks by article number and then all works. but again the problem is it is some bug in their software so it will be happening until the bug itself will be fixed.

it means newsfeeds also won't work for nzb or any other indexing service users (as to affected headers) since article numbers are specific to every server. so they are losing their user base, it doesn't make sense, it puzzles me.

it is possible to add the compact binary article numbers newsgroup type but it is a lot of work (maybe few weeks or a month) and because of the said above about nzb etc. - the problem is non-existent with other providers, i'm not sure whether i allocate the time to implement it or work on something more useful given that ue allows to work in a proper mode already.

try to contact their support and give them newsgroup and messages you cannot download, maybe you'll be the last drop and will make them to contact software designers so it will be fixed. the 'newspro' mode in ue is most memory greedy but still then ue can load at least 2 times more headers than newspro and keep the rest of newsgroups unloaded, read UE.txt, max. groups etc. it is most relevant for such a case.

I have been a long time NewsFeeds user (>4 years). I just dropped them for another provider just for this reason.

Dump them. There are better providers around.

jgrade1: also you can help them to locate the problem if you export the affected headers into nzb file and email them the file, since it will be the same picture with any newsreading client then.

it seems that the problem lies in software and the administering nature of their operation, e.g. usenetserver had the same problem for years but then when nzb became common it was fixed.

Problem solved. I tried to work with their support, but they said what they always say and never fix the problem. Well i fired them and signed with Giganews unlimited. More reliable and actually works. Too bad, I liked the multiple server thing, but Giganews gives me 10 connections so Oh Well.

i also talked to their representative a few days ago, the same impression, i just asked him to private message you for nzb file of affected headers so they can locate the problem, it would take him a couple of minutes, what can be easier, instead i was suggested to contact his supervisor and things like that (and he is their employee in their location and not some third world based customer support service), in short something strange is going on there.

i still would help them but as to now 4 months without success and they are not interested.
