just starting to test the 15day trial of UE, FIRST impressions - FAST!!!
comparison... using import/import&download&save, usenetserver, 3 tasks, 785mb, same nzb file from newzbin
- UE, 785mb in 16mins
- NP, same 785mb in 20mins
NP, speedwise is good, but importing lots of nzb files with lots of parts sometimes took 5+minutes to see all the articles with tick marks. which meant that there was no article downloading whilst this activity was being done, same goes for deleting items in the import tab... (yea i know it's likely due to my slow processor!)
UE, the whole app is much quicker, from loading nzb files, deleting, scrolling etc... just a great job overall. articles are ticked nearly immediatly, deleting lots of articles is done in a snap...
one MAJOR issue...
import a nzb file via Import/Import&download&save, in the Newsgroup - Import window (or import tab) you see a list of the parts in the import tab
whilst UE is getting the parts (as shown in the task manager/articles tab) this window (and the articles tab in the task manager) refreshes so badly that i can actually see each of the articles being scanned every second or so, very very annoying
if I just minimize the app, the speed of the pc is unaffected, like NP.
no other application that i have does this, even NP going at full stretch
pc setup - windows xp sp2, 512mb, celeron 400, gf2mx400
any help appreciated.
refresh in main import window
ue is strongly optimized for performance, but later (after i'll finish with indexing) i may try to trade performance for less blinking (i'll try to check how it behaves on slower processors, with 2-2.8Ghz processor it is not a big deal here; i think for task manager it can be more easily optimized, with header views it is a bit more difficult because of threads of replies).
