Pausing

The pause button works wonderfully in UE - I especially like the timer! Unfortunately it's not just pausing UE but my internet connection - ie, firefox, mail, whatever all grinds to a halt when I pause UE. The second I unpause they all start working again.

it is your firewall or something third party in the middle of winsock, the issue had been already mentioned on the forum, the solution was not to pause completely but to set some small bandwidth in properties->tasks, bandwidth when pause button pressed (or replace the firewall :) ).

which firewall is it? if it is popular i could set some small bandwidth as default for new installations.

I'm not using a software firewall at the moment. I was previously using ZoneAlarm, now uninstalled (or is it???). My router is a netgear dg834.

maybe it is router then (but also check nothing left from zone alarm - in processes and look for its drivers), in short there something below the application level which causes that.

let me know if the problem has been fixed with e.g. 1KB bandwidth.

Set the pause speed to 1 and no problems showing after about half an hour. Just to check I set it back to 0 and it locked up after about 10 minutes. Went back to 1 and haven't had a lockup in the few hours since.

if you can try connect the computer to internet directly to see whether it is router or not, the cause is more likely to be in some third party winsock related driver on your computer, as to now there is always impact on the overall connection speed when more than one network application (not necessarily ue) is running.

well I could do if I had a separate modem... unfortunately my router is one of the all-in-one types. My connection speed is fine - on a 2Mb connection I'm seeing around 220kb/s in UE and combined speeds when running other apps at the same time as UE are similar.
