Automatically d/l & mark as 'read'

Post by rickyfc »

Here's what I do in NP and I'd like to do the same in UE but can't figure out how: with a single click on an article, I want to simultaneously download the body so that I can read it (or view it) in the preview pane and mark the article as 'read'. All with one single click of the mouse.

As it is in UE now (and I'm probably doing something wrong, no doubt), I have to click the little box next to the article name, then I have to click the article name itself. At this point I've downloaded and can read ... but it's not marked as 'read'. So I have to click onto another article then BACK to the original then off of it again. At that point, it becomes 'read' ... and I'm dizzy.

I know I can combine a bunch of shortcuts instead of using the mouse but that's still way overkill. I must be missing something....

In NP, all of this was accomplished easily with a single click of the mouse with a combination of the "Fast Mark for Download" and the "Mark read on view article" options. Now, it's just a big chore.

Is there a way to do what I want ... or should I just continue to use NP?

Thanks!

There is also a "Mark read on view article" under Properties > Articles in UE. It's unchecked by default.

There is a quirk (bug?) with it though - it only marks the article read if you first download it and then open the viewer. If you doubleclick the header or hit enter so the viewer opens, which automatically downloads the article, it's not marked read when you close the viewer again. You have to open and close it again to have it marked read

Thanks, Rodent. Yes, I know about that option and have it checked. The bug you mention is what, I suppose, causes the problem with my having to click OFF of the article and then back ON it in order for the 'read' property to be set.

What I'd REALLY like is the "Fast Mark for Download" option back.

OK, sorry, I think I misread your post then.
