It would also be handy if we can exclude newsgroups, from a search result.
For instance, if I want to search for sasha, one of my favorite DJ, the search tab is filled with results of alt.binaries.pictures.* and alt.binaries.erotica
May be there is a workaround for this allready, but I couldn't find it.

you can exclude newsgroups with both group filer and group kill filter.

read about boolean wildmats in UE.txt (help notes).

with group filter it is like only for the current search and you need to negate the group name patter which you want to exclude from the search e.g. ^pictures&^erotica or ^(pictures|erotica) - which is the same expression.

with group kill filter in properties->general, search service->group kill filter you set your permanent preferences, so the filter is applied to every search you make.

since it is already "kill filter" you just tell what you don't want to see thus you would enter:

pictures|erotica

it doesn't belong to this thead i'll move it to support.

as to separating newsgroups myself, i don't want to be involved in any kind of censorship or to have anything to do with any specific content, if i couldn't avoid that i would publish the server as a free companion without trying to run it.

so i just took all alt.binaries.* newsgroups and added newsgroup lists indexed by other indexing services.

thus it is up to the user to define preferences through the group kill filter, especially to exclude unwanted newsgroups (it will even won't show the post if it is cross-posted to any group if it is posted in at least one group which matches the group kill filter); from other side the group filter in the search service bar is rather to narrow the current search.
