Newsgroup: AsianDVD (regular, compact binary)
Dests: All newsgroup servers (compact binary newsgroup)

The header in question 'hangs' in the newsgroup folder with a check mark on it and is impossible to remove short of a restart.

It occurs when I double-click a header to view the text/attachment and then double click it in the message window to display it in the viewer. Once I have finished/exited the message window. The header remains in the newsgroup display with a check (and red) and is not removable.

Not a terrible problem, but frustrating :)

Thanks

what is the exact sequence, do you delete it, in what way and where exactly? the same happens if it is newsgroup which is opened? if so can you try to reset headers for the newsgroup and then start again with downloading headers so we have the complete sequence to reproduce the problem.

Let me work on it some more and get back,,,,,,, but;

The delete/purge action is subsequent to the problem (as I see it). It is the check mark remaining in the download column on a message which has already been downloaded and read. (red).

It just hangs there and an integrity check will produce the hash error message. It occurs when I double-click the article to read it (small attachment), and then double click the icon in the message display to view it, then exit the message display window back to the newsgroup/folder window. :)

Back later with more if needed.

try to describe the sequence i need to invoke to see that (check in edit menu->fonts&colors what the "red" color means, in case you customized colors, it doesn't affect anything thougy, is it "read" in your setup?).

the delete/purging is preceding the problem, what means "subsequent" (i'm sorry if i missed something with my english :) )?

Yes, RED is READ :)

Subsequent = After the fact/problem.

Here with more info: (sorry for the long text) :(

Sequence of events:

1. Run diagnostics/integrity, receive SUCCESS! Open a newsgroup/folder.
2. Double click on post with attachment (AVI Sample)
3. message display window opens immediately, and shows an icon for my external
player for the AVI.
4. Double click the icon and it brings up the player (this particular AVI did NOT
play but produced an error in the player)
5. Exit the player, and exit the message display window (Click the X)
6. The post header shows a check mark on the box to the left (selected for download)
7. The post header shows read (red).
8. Check mark will NOT GO AWAY, Properties printout for the post is as below:

10. Pull out some of remaining hair and send this message :)

11. The post/header in question is a "fly-on-the-wall" for the remainder of
the UE run (until restarted), It can not be Unchecked/Purged/Deleted.

That's it :)

but according to properties all parts have bodies.

here what i see it just finishes download and put the "body" green notepad-like icon, no check mark, it doesn't depend what i do in the article view.

can you create another instance with a single relatively small newsgroup e.g. alt.binaries.e-book.technical (use e.g. properties->general->change database folder, then copy reg.dat and flt.dat to the new database location to have the same settings since i suspect it is something specific to your settings), delete all other newsgroups and leave only this one.

just be careful not to delete your original databse.

do you see the same problem?

in short maybe you'll be able to create a small database sample with a single newsgroup, cleared history and changed server passwords, then i could try to use my servers to reproduce the problem from the sample.

Setup as you suggested:

1. alt.binaries.e-book.technical, got new headers (default setup of newsgroup).
2. Select header indicated below (A larger PAR2)
3. Double click it, and observe the message display window with the QuickPar icon.
4. Right click the icon and select view in editor.
5. View it an exit editor.
6. Exit message display window.
7. Damn thing shows Read (red), with a check mark on top of the green box.
(note the PAR2 was NOT saved).

That's what I get. I have the 'normal' batch of programs running, Outlook Express,
"I hate Spam", Total Commander, and AVG.

What do you think?

can you invoke edit menu->clear history, also you may remove server passwords (i can put my servers instead) then .rar the database and email it to support at usenetopia dot com, i'll check it here, maybe something in your settings. you may even email me only reg.dat from the new database directory, it will be very small email then.

the problem is with the option "mark read on view" in properties->articles (only for such a scenario with the article pending and it marks read on view), you may uncheck the option in the meantime, i'll fix this in the next release, thanks for the sample.

i've fixed it here, there will be no such problem any more.
i wiped your database from everywhere as well.

unrelated are you using the "native" search service? it is integrated and free.
view menu->search service, then in properties->general, search/import select protocol "native".
