Feature Request: Middle mouse button closes tabbed window

Post by rhelliwell »

Firefox and VisualStudio allow the user to use the middle mouse button to close a window tab. Move the mouse over the tab, and "middle click" -- window closes. Almost faster than CTRL+F4! :)

I thought the subject line said it all... but it would be a nice "Feature Request".

UE has tabs (open groups, search service) so it is relevant and probably more important to some than to others.

A workaround could be to use your mouse drivers to create a profile for UE and assign CTRL+F4 to the middle click. I often switch my mouse profiles (especially for text groups) so I can use the back button for Download Immediately, forward for delete, cruise up/down move up and down one line at a time for easier thread navigation and application button (on my Logitech MX1000) for ALT+Space to bring up the text preview.

This all depends on how good your mouse drivers are. I for one won't be buying another Logitech mouse because the people who write their drivers don't listen to their users so I have to use a third-party app to workaround the problem. However, I understand Microsoft have reintroduced the application-specific feature in their drivers again so you don't have to manually switch profiles as with Logitech. I often secretly hope I 'accidentally' drop my MX1000 so I have an excuse to buy another Microsoft mouse. A corded one next time - never again will I buy a wireless.

in the next version it will close tabs with the left mouse button doubleclick, in the updated GUI library i could find and modify proper handlers.

The 'Doubleclick' = Close is a bit confusing, usually a double click 'Opens' something :)

Oh Well I will just have to get used to it and stop accidently closing my tabs. :)
