Updating headers instantly

Post by batfink »

Ok, here's the scenario.
I've got me a bunch o stuff queued for download with low priority (low priority so that i can just click on something in a group and it will jump to the front of the queue with High priority).

Now i see a newsgroup i want to update..I know its a small newsgroup with not many headers..so i click update headers.....and i wait....and wait..and wait..whilst it says "Update headers pending"..
Eventually this will change to "Connecting" and then the headers will update..
But it can take upto 5 minutes to change from pending to Connecting.

How do i tell UE that i want group updates to be of the utmost importance..so when i click on update group, it starts to update the monment there is a free process available.

Right now, i can be download a 50 meg file comprised of 60 chunks and i can watch UE download 30 or 40 of those chunks (i have 5 chunks downloading at a time) before the group update is give a free process.

you can just give the headers tasks the highest chance to run relative to other kinds of tasks (properties->tasks->relative chance to run).

if all header task slots are occupied in the task manager, headers pane drag the header task to the top and if any of remaining header tasks will take too long to complete cancel another header task to free a task slot.

but i guess in your case you are just downloading bodies so relative chance to run is enough then (it will launch the header task as soon as an article task has been completed, although it is still a chance it should work for you :) ).
