i have been an user for almost 2 years and never have had one single issue until now. every time i launch usenet explorer it crashes before the gui even comes up. i have rebooted my pc, deleted all temp files, deleted all usenet files, folders and database and downloaded latest version from the site and extracted and still having same issues. i have not installed any new software the last couple of days. i noticed earlier in the day that usenet explorer would just close out beside itself but there was no error message. any help would greatly be appreciated. My system specs are as follows: Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD 4800+ X2, 2gb DDR RAM, 2 250gb sata 300 hdd's, liteone litescribe dvd-rw, pioneer 111 dvdrw drive, ati radeon x800xl 256mb pci-x, asus mainboard.[/img]

ok two scenarios, i don't know which one:
1. in ue database directory check log.txt and check the hard drive for errors, if there are such errors sometimes file exception may be raised when ue verifies database files on start, maybe i'll add a more clear error message for such a case, statistically those errors are quite rare, i cannot do much from inside ue, you need to fix system errors for ue to start normally.
2. try to check this version
http://www.netwu.com/ue/ue171bc.rar
does it start normally? if it does just use it. before v1.7.1 i've accidentally deleted an older version of the executable compressor (third party application i'm using to compress the executable) and with the new compressor version (full rewrite
) one user complained that it exits when you invoke any menu in his configuration, so i found an older version about the same date as i've lost and the file above is compressed with the older version and works with that user.
but if it is the case 2 let me know asap and then i'll replace the current executable with this one (it is the same executable as in the original release, thus it is the same code, just compressed with different compressor version). most likely it is not the compressor to blame but some faulty third party hook which maybe tries to do something to program menu resources too early.

I've got the same problem as mentionned in point 2 (crash every time I tried to invoke any menu) so I've rolled back to 1.7.0.
The problem is solved with the version provided in this post (ue171bc.rar)
I've just tried the 1.72 version 10 minutes ago and everything works fine.
Thank you for this great software. for me, the best usenet client.
