UE:20029 Error: Couldn't place the body (Solved: Nod32 bug)

Hi there, Alex!

Long time, no see :-)

I have just installed Windows XP Professional (I used WinXP Home until now) and I got this strange error message:

================================================
Last error/mishap: server: news-europe.giganews.com time: 20:33 error: Couldn't place the body - (read/write error?) (UE:20029)
================================================

What can be wrong?

There is plenty of space in my hard drive and the folder is not protected or something... Any ideas?

try to check the partition for errors with fixing file errors, does it give any errors afterwards?

the error message is given when something goes wrong in the "Bodies" directory like cannot write the file.

if you want (in case the situation will be reproducible after fixing disk errors) make backup of the database directory with the problem and then we'll try to locate exactly what condition is triggered and what file (it might depend on what article you are trying for download).

ok after troubleshooting it - it is NOD32 bug, a file is created in one thread and closed in another thread, apparently some synchronization bug in NOD32 prevents the close operation to succeed, so the file becomes locked and it happens to be the downloaded article body.

the solution which appears to neutralize the bug is to exclude at least Temp\Rt directory from this particular antivirus scan until they fix it, then all works.

it is NOD32 version 2.51.26 maybe they'll fix it, it seems the problem has been introduced recently.

just they have driver/hook which intercepts all file operations and they messed something there, it is only this specific program and maybe only this version, other antiviruses are not affected.

Thanks, Alex for taking all the time to fix this!

Stupid NOD32... Just to be on the safe side everyone should exclude the database folders from their antivirus checking temporarily.

Thanks again Alex for creating this program and being there when we need you! Excellent support and communication!

I was and will be a dedicated UE fan!
