Trouble Downloading Headers - Help!!

Post by efective »

I got around to upgrading to the most updated version of UE yesterday.

I went to download a few headers and threads yesterday at around 6pm and nothing happened; they stayed there in my Import tab. So I highlight all the headers and threads and repeated my usual process. . .I’m not a newbie I know how to download. . .again nothing happened.

This morning, I attempt to download again and this time it worked. I was able to download multiple headers and threads.

Tonight, I go to download again and like last night nothing happens. The headers and threads just stay in my Import tab.

Can someone please explain to me how I can overcome this problem?

do you have newsgroups attached to the Import group in the newsgroups pane?

in the workspace are you able to expand the Import group and see the servers?

if not right click the entry, then invoke advanced->attach all servers.

if the servers are there (maybe it is the case since you were able to download) try to delete/readd UE in the firewall definitions, also you can check errors in the task manager.

servers may be lost if e.g. some antivirus is messing with UE settings directory, but it is still unlikely since there is some integrity checks, e.g. it checks whether all newsgroups are still in settings and if not it rolls them back.

Question One: The answer is no.

Question Two: Yes.

Point Four: The only Firewall software I have is what is built into Windows XP. How do I check fo errors in the Task Manager? What am I looking for?

Point Five: I don't this is the case because like I said in the early hours of this morning I was able to download but now I can't.

Any more recommendations?

but the question one and two is the same question :)

in the workspace the leftmost "Newsgroups" pane left to the Import group you see the + to the left, if you click it it expands the entry so you see your news servers attached to the newsgroup.

+ Import

you click and see e.g.

- Import
|- news.earthlink.net

it means you have newsgroups attached to the import group?

when you get new headers in the task manager (tasks menu->task manager) you should see the red question sign pane after the "headers" pane (the question sign turns red when there is some error shown there). what is the error?

if you are downloading bodies (e.g. from search or nzb) you can see errors in "?" pane to the right of the "Articles" pane or in the Console pane in the task manager.

another thing you can check if you add news.microsoft.com are you able to download newsgroup list from it, subscribe to one of its newsgroups and to download headers?
