Hello, i recently ran out of space on my HDD and i was inspecting my folders and noticed that inside the UsenetDB folder is a folder called bodies, right now its @ 17 gigs.

What does it store, all the files i download go to another folder, i dont use the UsenetDB folder at all.

Is there an option within UE that lets me clean that folder, if not, what can i delete in it that wont affect UE.

Thanks[/u]

Do you choose not to delete bodies when they've saved successfully? Maybe you have lots of partials that saved but the bodies have been kept in case the articles were completed later on your server.

Open up your groups, check 'Body' on the Quick Filter bar for all of them and see which articles are listed. It's possible that some articles have saved and you've repaired the corrupt files with pars, although 17GB sounds a lot. However, I don't know how much you download so I don't know if that sounds about right in your case.

UE is a very sturdy app. It's unlikely that the bodies have become disconnected from the database. If you've had to begin a new database but kept some of the same settings (directory, for one) then it could be that the articles are not in sync.

There could be other factors such as antivirus software interfering with file operations. Either way, check to see if any bodies are still available when filtered and delete them from there if necessary. Obviously it's best to delete from within UE than to clear the bodies directory directly. The bodies directory holds each article segment until all parts of a file are completed. Then UE combines each segment to save the resulting file you expect. If you were to delete anything in there you could lose things you've downloaded but haven't saved yet.

Hey, thanks for the response.

Yeah i always select to delete bodies after successful download.

Now, i cant find this check Body option, can you be more specific?

And yeah i do download a lot :P.

I did began a new Database using the same folder, and im completely sure i have all my files saved, i would appreciate if you can tell exactly what can i delete in the bodies folder without losing my connection settings, i know i dont want to save anything there (other than my settings for UE).

On the View menu you have Quick Filter bar. You will see it at the top of the UE window under the main toolbar, along with the Search Service bar if you have it enabled. It's the Quick Filter bar which has the Body checkbox. (New, Read, Flag, Body, etc.)

Therein lies what could be a tricky problem. If you have a database full of articles then you may need make sure to clear out everything before you manually delete files in the database directory. Starting a new database over the top of the old one is the most likely cause of this problem, giving you old article bodies that are strays and unrecognised from within UE.

Probably the easiest way is to create a new database with a unique name. Do that, exit UE and copy everything from your old database directory to the new one except for the Bodies directory. This will keep all your settings and subscribed groups. Check over everything to make sure it all went through without a hitch. Then, once you are perfectly sure, you can delete the old database.
