I am running the lastest version, 1.9.9.7. I have a large queue in my import tab, currently 1.4Tb. I am finding the CPU is running around 50-70% continuously and its all UE.

I have reduced the CPU to run around 6-30% ( just downloading bodies ) by reducing the active downloads in the import directory to 100Gb

Any ideas what might be causing this, definitely I have had the import directory larger than this in the past ( on earlier versions ) and no issues with CPU

Computer is now whining away with the fan continously running ... I am getting domestic grief about this!!

if you have a short queue (only one download queued) do you have the same issue?

how many items do you have in the queue (edit menu->queued).

even with long queue CPU shouldn't be an issue, the slowest part is the code which is updating microsoft list control (i'm even using a trick to make it faster, on a slow processor on the initial development stage i got around 40000 1M items list updates per seconds i don't remember with or without the trick).

most likely do you have antivirus that may scan downloaded data for viruses? it might be well responsible for high processor usage. sometimes you need uninstall such programs completely even when you have scan options disabled.
