auto get headers

I am currently trialling UE but am hitting a brick wall when it comes to certain things (a comprehensive help file is required).
1. in config dialogs there appears to be a 'standard' of having blank buttons underneath input boxes - what are these intended for?
2. in Watch/Auto headers do the settings cascade down, so if I set something for Newsgroups it will cascade through all groups, or if I set properties for a folder it will affect all groups in that folder?
3. I can't seem to figure out 'auto get headers'. I have set a time against all groups in 'Watch/Auto header' of 180 and I have made sure that on the 'tasks' menu 'Enable auto get headers' is ticked.
4. Can the settings in the 'Newsgroups' tab be explained please.
5. I have another computer in my garage. If I change the Database folder (General tab) to be on a network drive will I be able to have the machine in the garage scheduled to start UE at midnight and run till 8am to update headers and perform downloads and then during the day use a second machine to review headers and queue up downloads?
Thanks in advance
