All traffic activity stop after fail to download a message

It's happened two time in a night, the last thing i can read on console is:
(i put some asterisk to cover some data)

Abort<news-east.newscene.com> [MANIFESTO] it.binari.cartoni, Gruppo Coordinamento NEWS-IT <gcn-at-news.nic.it@nowhere.invalid>

Error [NewsPro] Aborted (Header kill filter, see Properties->Articles): Supersedes: <HELP.it.binari.cartoni.12164@news.nic.it>

i dont' use any kill filter, i can't see nothing in filter list but i'll try check better;

after that two messages every network traffic is freezed, than i watch the task activity, there are 8 frozed (from hours) download tasks, no autosave or any other activity since that, then if i open any group and i mark a single message for retrieving everything restart like nothing is happened (except the timeout for the previous freezed tasks).

actually i just unmarked that message and everything is working.

just another thing: how does Newspro work if the UPS request to the system to shutdown for low battery?

header kill filter has been introduced lately, you can switch it off in properties->articles.

there is certain kind of duplicates that are maliciously posted with the intent to kill the original post, it is part of logic not to download them (but if somethone posted a real supersedes message you can switch it off temporarily or competely).

as to frozen tasks if they are in the pending state (combo at the bottom, 'pending') it may be several reasons like server reached download limit, tasks marked for later download, scheduler, other than 'ignore' setting in the dial-up properties with non dial-up connection.

if these are running tasks (you see non-advancing bars in the task manager) - if the number of retries (shown to the right when you click the bar) grows it may be server timeout or server down, if they are just stuck there it might be some local issue like malfunctioning firewall since every task eventually is supposed to end.

the frozen task issue doesn't have anything to do with the header kill filter issue.

as to the request for the system shutdown - as it stands now - newspro says 'no' to the system but it starts saving the database so if it is given some time to complete the operation - all will be saved (in fact afterwards it will show the message box that it is now safe to shut down the system but at the time all has been saved already).

most probably the shutdown behaviour will be improved so it will save the database and then will say yes to continue the system shutdown, as to now the syncrhonization scheme is too complicated to implement that this way.

there was two voices active, Header Kill Filter with Supersedes:* and Abort download with significan'Lines:' misreporting

i turned off both ones now

but the i can read something on console, errors like that appears clearly, but after the two errors lines i reported here there was no more activity in console, not a single line;
at first i think the program was locked or freezed but i can navigete in every menu, open control panel and task manager; in this one i can list the pending tasks but the blue progress bar are like freezed (imagine you set the bandwidth to 0 kb/s and have no timeout), the reported badwidth was 0 so that part worked fine, also dumeter show no traffic except sometimes by other tasks.
scheduler, other than 'ignore' setting in the dial-up properties with non dial-up connection.
the scheduler is empty, actually i never used it and the dialup is ignored (always on), also i have no firewall since i keep the system very clean.

since everything is like frozen there is no activity in that part too
the frozen task issue doesn't have anything to do with the header kill filter issue.
i assumed that because it's the last thing that appears in the console window, it's happened two times

usually i summer we have some sort of problems during the nights (in italy there is a single monopolized company, high prices and owful service to customers), usually the ups give the shutdown signal from 5 to 10 minutes before cut the output but for what i know most of them go from 3 to 5, hope it can help.

a last thing, like a suggestion for the others;
if you reset the database newspro rebuild it by downloading every header again (also according to the settings, usually take 2 or 3 hours for me because the big groups),
the database after that has approx the some size like before the reset and article with bodies remains even if marked read, but the interesting thing is that after the reset the operation of saving, backup, optimize and start are veeeeery fast.

bye

got another freeze just now under my eyes, no errors this time, nothing only the traffic went down and all progess bar are like freezed;

the console window has also no activity, i opene da group, marked a message (multipart) for retrieving the unmark it, got on console window the messages about the canceled download but the progress bar are always freezed; i waited some minutes, but NOTHING has moved (abosloutely nothing), everything appear work fine, that's strange, i haven't modified any setting for mounths; finally i restarted newspro and it's working now;
i can't figure what happened.

if restarting newspro fixed it (you didn't answer my questions from previous post so here we go again):

1. if dial-up menu is enabled, ensure in properties 'Ignore' is checked (if the menu is disabled all is ok).

2. by freezing you mean running tasks or pending tasks (pending tasks with zero running tasks)?

if you see running tasks - progress bars which don't move - the problem lies with your firewall, it got confused with so many connections (some firewall bug). uninstalling the firewall/replacing it will help then (see 'Other') section, there is a discussion there.

ok, sorry for my poor english.
Dialup menu is disable, running task freeze all in the some istant and remains freezed until i restart (1) newspro, like if i take a picture of the screen.

i don't have any firewall software installed, and i suppose there is a timeout for the running task, so i confirm that the running task are freezed the some after hours (you can took a picture of the task panel and compare it later, it's the some).

(1) it's happened only one time, i marked one header with ctrl+k, the running task moved and probably died ( i didn't pay much attention at that moment ) because of the servers timeout.

I din't remember to report something, when all this happen also autosave is freezed (i found in one newsgroup windows some body not saved after hours in freeze state, then saved and header deleted after the restart of newspro);
during the night also the get-new-headers task halted, in console window there there was nothing after the moment everything freezed, on task panel there was the usuals errors but all before the freeze (server timeout, etc, etc....) , after the freeze nothing again., just like a frozen picture.

thank you for your attention , this is not a big problem for me since i can check often what happen.
