I have inadvertently suspended the save queue. I have a message which says "To reenable saving - uncheck 'Tasks menu -> Suspend save queue'."
However, this menu item does not toggle. When I click on it I simply get a message that the save queue has been suspended.
What should I do.
How to unsuspend the save queue
> Check that the drive you're saving to has enough free space
Thanks for the tip, as I certainly wasn't aware of this option.
I so much wanted this to work because it's so simple, but unfortunately there are oodles of free space left on the HD. I tried unticking the 'suspend tasks when DB is too large to fit in memory' but that didn't make any difference either.

It may be related to the recent thread on external hard drives. Alex tweaked it but there may be something else that needs looking at. Do you or have you ever saved to an external drive? Or maybe you've had an external drive attached while you were using UE which is now disconnected.
If you haven't restarted UE too many times, you can go into your settings directory and restore an older reg.dat and see if you can then unsuspend the queue. If you do this, remember to backup your settings directory first.

in the task manager (if you don't see it task menu->task manager), the "save" tab (the diskette tab icon) scroll to the top check what is the topmost item.
pay attention to the "save folder" column, maybe the destination drive doesn't exist or the destination drive is full. or let me know (pm or here) what is the item).
also i think it save queue will be suspended when file name is too long, basically when UE doesn't know what to do with the task, any save error, maybe i need to adjust the suspend queue error message, the problem was in prior versions it didn't save and could delete the article body in the same time, it is why the changed behaviour.
if path is too long for example, you can select the items and change the save path from the save context menu, but maybe it is possible to move the question sign right so the question sign will be after the save pane and put the save errors there.

Thanks Alex, this helped me solve the problem.alex wrote:basically any save error will suspend the save queue.
The top item had a blue icon rather than green. Everything else seemed in order, but when I tried to manually save the file I had a 'file name not valid' error. This may have been due to the 255-character limit on path & file name because when I reduced the path length the file was saved and the save queue automatically resumed
i edited my reply in the same time as you posted yours, so no more your quote, just i got a hint about long paths from someone on my msn list and who is not aware about this forum thread
if it shows the error which caused the exception then it is ok as it is now, to introuduce additional save error pane or keep those items in the save pane potentially accumulating indefinitely maybe is not a good idea.

Alex - I can reproduce the problem at will by entering a long save path.
You should consider doing something. The only indication I had of the error was the change of colour on the icon, which I actually missed until you pointed it out. I did not even realise my problem was due to an error condition, so I wan't looking for any error messages.
On a different topic: I would really appreciate a glossary of all the icons in Usenet Explorer. (It there already is one - I have not found it so I think you need to make it more easily accessible)

Seems like a good option.maybe it is possible to move the question sign right so the question sign will be after the save pane and put the save errors there.
