hope someone can help me. UE was working fine last week. This week i cannot connect to Astraweb. I get this error message:

"Error A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. (System: 10060)"

astraweb says everything is working fine on their end, logged in okay with my account info, etc.

everything is working fine on giganews account.

thanks.

it is outright error.

all connections fail like that?

if so, check server name / port is right in edit menu->properties->servers, also i hope you didn't define some non-existent access proxy in edit menu->properties->proxies.

is it SSL? what server/port.

if from windows command prompt you type

telnet us.news.astraweb.com 119

telnet us.secure.news.astraweb.com 563

it connects in both cases, no outright error?

which server do you use? I had last week the same problem whit the ssl-eu.astraweb.com. I had a error 10060 also. There reaction was that everything was ok. Strange thing was that any other server adress from Astra was working fine only the ssl-eu.astraweb.com had trouble. After one hour i tried again and it was working again.

Have you tried any other server address from Astraweb?

Very very strange. Before doing anything, i went into UE and tried to download an mp3 file on the astraweb SSL and non-SSL server. Just as was the case for the past week, nothing worked.

I then tried the telnet command to the non-SSL server and that worked ok. I then went back into UE and now the SSL and non-SSL server are both working. The telnet command seems to have cured the problem.

thanks for the responses.

telnet doesn't change anything, maybe it was some problem with routing from your ISP to astraweb servers, also maybe to try to reset your router if you see it again.

some more info.....i have been using default settings on the servers as i have added and deleted multiple times.

i bumped up the number of tasks from 5 to 20 and got into the same state where i was getting connection failures. i changed the number of tasks from 20 to 10 was still getting the error. i reset the router and everything is working fine again.

maybe when you exceed the number of connections, which may happen due imprecise connection counting on the server side, eventually astraweb closes them ungracefully (i have no idea if it is the case) and your router cannot handle that.

you can test it by connecting a computer directly without router and setting higher number of connections in UE. it it works and with router it doesn't work, it would mean the problem is router.

also try to check on the internet whether someone reported similar problems with your particular model router regarding any p2p program and check for firmware upgrades.
