Easynews: get headers hangs (has been now fixed by easynews)

I use Easynews and when I try to get new headers, the headers are retrieved to about 95% or so, and at the last increment, it just hangs and the latest headers are never retrieved. I have tried editing the timeout period in the preferences, rescanning, resetting headers, and resetting header ranges to no avail. What is going on?

yes, it is a known problem.

they have server compiled with botched version of server software which doesn't implement xzver (compressed headers) command correctly. the server doesn't flush last compressed data, so getting headers stucks near the end.

i contacted highwinds, highwinds contacted me several times, but it appears nothing has changed since then.

what you can do is to disable compressed headers support in properties->general.

the strange thing is another highwinds farm - UNS (www.usenetserver.com, the same company as easynews) supports compressed headers without any problem, maybe easynews has some customized server compilation which is difficult to change so they are stuck with it.

easynews have now fixed this issue.

they disabled compressed headers around a month ago and now finally they came up with a solution after fixing few glitches in their beta setup, but now all is ok and the changes are put in effect on their servers yesterday.
