I know that if enabling purging is set the news groups are purged on close and reopen and all deleted headers are removed.

Is there a way to set that purging happens after like 7 days?

Schedule it to happen and not clean everything out so youhave the chance to go back in cause you need a file that you have deleted?

you can use retention (1-7) or last headers (say 150K will give about 7 days for a binary group) in properties->newsgroups, last headers is faster in the first time (since it doesn't need to scan everything in the first time or after you've increased retention).
