Two Questions: Posting Server Filter & Reported Lines Er

Post by johngalt »

Hi - been registered with NewsPro for over 2 years now, and it's still the best! I have two questions, though.

1) Is there any chance of allowing filters on Message Id's? I see you have the option to filter on "Supercedes", but if I wanted to filter on the Posting Server (to eliminate newsgroup sporges coming from a single server), is there a way to do both?

secondly,
2) Even though I have about 8 servers in my newsgroup setup, it appears that if even one of them has a "misreported lines" error, it halts trying to download that message, even though one of the other servers does have the proper file. At the moment, I have to disable the errant server, try the download again, and re-enable the bad one after I have the file.

Thanks.

misreported lines

I also have the misreported lines problem. It would be good if NewsPro tried other servers when it gets this error on an article.

you mean it is a server bug so one server has problems showing wrong number of lines in the message body but other servers are ok? maybe you should disable the related option in properties->articles that causes that behaviour. the option can be disabled independently from the the supersedes header filter.

the option is to reject and to switch to an alternative part with different message-id, you cannot expect something different if you try to retreieve the same article from different servers unless it is a weird server bug (if it is a commercial server try to contact their support).

misreported lines

Yes, misreporting lines seems to be either a server bug or a transmission of news bug. I have 7 servers I can download from. I sometimes see an article that has misreported lines on several servers, but it is fine on some other servers. It is definitely not always the same collection servers that have the misreported lines.

I start disabling servers & redownloading until I find one that works. I think I always find at least one server that has a correct copy of the article.
