newspro does not access internet, firewall does not report

Post by bassie »

Downloading worked until two days ago always.
now newspro starts, but when i want to download headers from a newsgroup, the data transport is 0.000 bytes/seconds. No matter what i do: xpat, download headers, etc. etc.
I tried the following:
- remove the program from my sygate personal firewall allowed applications. Then i deinstalled newspro. Then i reinstalled newspro, but then the firewall did not react on an attempt of newspro to go to the internet. Also older version 3.74 nor 3.73 work.

Maybe i removed some critical data when i used my registry cleaner?
Also i think it is strange that i have to copy the registration number and that it is not found automatically by the newspro installation. I thought that this was automatic in the past?

This problem looks the same like with the problem of a recent zonealarm firewall. That version did not report an attempt, and newspro did not download either.

Any ideas?

try to temporarily disable and, if it doesn't help, uninstall completely the firewall, to see whether it helps.

also you should see some errors in the task manager (timeout etc.)

there are some settings which you could accidentally set (like disable server etc.), but check the firewall first.

I deinstalled the firewall and restarted the computer. Still the same situation occured. Als the task manager does not give an error. The situation looks normal for newspro, although data transport is 0.000 kb/s
I installed another firewall and that also did not help.

I will try other things, maybe i plan already for a fresh install of windows?

it works again

Well lucky me.

I downloaded the trial version and ran it. The firewall said "new application is trying to connect to internet, shoul i allow it".
I said "yes" and the trial version works.

Then i went to the registered version (that did not work) and it worked again!

Funny, that it goes this way. Does somebody understand this?
